A Free Natural Language Processing (NLP) microcourse, from basics to deep learning

What is it?

NLP4Free is a free online crash course on NLP developed by myself.

How is it delivered?

The course is comprised of slides and Jupyter notebooks. The former can be viewed online from the links below and also downloaded as PDFs, the latter may be downloaded as .ipynb files or run in Google Colab.

What is covered?

The course covers the following at a high level, with simple code examples to get the non-technical practitioner unfamiliar with NLP and machine learning started:

  • Part 1 - Introduction to NLP
  • Part 2 - Data Acqusition and Processing
  • Part 3 - Machine Learning and Sentiment Analysis
  • Part 4 - Unsupervised Methods for NLP
    • In progress
  • Part 5 - Deep Learning for Natural Language
    • In progress

How much does it cost?

Nothing, it’s free.

There’s a catch, right?

No. However, I would ask that if you share or use these materials, you give proper attribution to the original author (me). As such, the course materials are provided under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial license.

Whatever, just show me all the code!

The code and slides are available in the Github Repo.

You can clone the whole repo to pull down everything at once:

git clone
